Public Recycling Containers

Supporting the goal to protect and enhance Peak Creek, FOPC offered to provide recycling containers as an alternative to a high traffic venue which only offered trash receptacles. Partnering with the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Pulaski to encourage recycling for the MARKETPLACE (a seasonal farmer’s market) and other activities that take place at the Historic Pulaski Train Station and nearby Dora Highway Park. Valley Branch, a small stream running through Dora Highway Park, flows into Peak Creek. Our goal was to help eliminate trash in Peak Creek by providing more receptacles for litter in adjacent areas.

FOPC received a grant from the Keep Virginia Beautiful 30 for 30 program which enabled us to purchase four metal 48-gallon containers for the Train Station. Local companies were contracted to create and attach recycling signs to metal 48-gallon outdoor receptacles for the recycling of glass and plastic. The Town volunteered maintenance responsibility for the containers and use them for various activities in other locations thus widening their positive impact.
